Procedure

This page describes the procedure that you must follow to use the Previse automated screen conversion service.  Please follow these instructions carefully for best result.

STEP 1 - Make Sure the service is right for you.

Review the information at this conversion site to ensure that the Previse automated conversion service will meet your needs.

Once you've decided to make use of our service, please follow the following procedure to obtain best results, and to avoid the need for us to have to request additional information and files from you.

After having completed numerous conversions, our experience is that the largest reason for conversion delays, and end user rework, and additional site visit requirements, is that the information requested in this procedure is not all gathered up front.  Please help us to help you by following this procedure carefully.
STEP 2 - Review the Pricing and Terms of Conversion

Before requesting conversion you should EITHER request a quotation for conversion services or review the pricing contained in this web site.  You should also review the terms and conditions of conversion.

STEP 3 - Locate the InTouch Project Directory

Search the hard disk of the InTouch computer to locate the InTouch project directory.  This directory will have files of the following file extension types:

  • CSV, WIN, WVW, NDX
  • CBK, IDX, NBK, X, A
  • And many others

Verify that the project directory that you have located is the "active directory" for your InTouch system, and that it is not a "backup" directory or "archive" directory.

STEP 4 - Get the Right Tag Database from Intouch

The Tag Database for your InTouch system is REQUIRED in a CSV file format for conversion.  No other format is suitable.

Use InTouch at client site to export entire tag database to CSV file format.  Call this file TagDataBase.CSV

Place the TagDataBase.CSV file in InTouch project directory located in STEP 3 above.

STEP 5 - Review all other CSV files

To ensure correct conversion, it is critical to ensure that the correct Tag Database is used during the automated conversion process.  You must review all other CSV files within the Project Directory to ensure that only one file named TagDataBase.CSV will be provided.

STEP 6 - Get the FULL InTouch Version Number and Build Number

Numerous versions of Wonderware have been shipped over the years (e.g. 3.26, 4.0, 4.1, 4.11, 5.0, 5.1, 5.6, 6.0, 6.1, 6.1a, 6.1b, 7.0, 7.1 etc).  In addition, there are multiple "builds" or sub-releases within Wonderware versions.  Note that current conversion tools do not support all versions of InTouch.

To complete automated InTouch to iFIX conversion, we require the full InTouch version number (e.g. Version 7,0,0,1121).

Using InTouch WindowMaker within the InTouch system, open the About WindowMaker... Box and record the COMPLETE InTouch Version number (including build number) for the version of InTouch in use.

STEP 7 - Provide System Information File SYSTEMINFO.TXT

Additional information must be provided to Previse before we can begin your conversion.  To provide us this information you must use Microsoft Windows NOTEPAD.EXE to create a SYSTEMINFO.TXT file with the following information:

  1. What is the complete InTouch Version Number from STEP 6 above (e.g. Version 7,0,0,1121)?
  2. What is the CRT screen resolution in pixels of the current InTouch system (e.g. 800 X 600)?
  3. What is the CRT screen resolution in pixels of the target iFIX system (e.g. 1024 X 768)?
  4. Which device driver will be used for the target iFIX system?
  5. Does the current InTouch system use any of the following additional Wonderware products: InTrack, Industrial SQL Server, InControl, InBatch?  If so, which ones?
  6. Does the current InTouch system use any of the following additional Wonderware InTouch add-in products: SPC Add-In, Recipe Add-In, SQL Add-In?  If so, which ones?
  7. For reference purposes in communications, provide the end user client company name, and a unique name for this system.

Place the SYSTEMINFO.TXT file into the InTouch project directory.

STEP 8 - You should now be ready!!

You should now be ready to capture and copy the InTouch files.

Your InTouch project directory should include ALL of the following project files:

  • TagDataBase.CSV file from STEP 4
  • SYSTEMINFO.TXT file from STEP 7
  • InTouch project files: CSV, WIN, WVW, NDX, and others
STEP 9 - Which Specific Files are needed

COPY ALL of the files from the InTouch Project Directory to a Temporary Working Directory.  DO NOT pick and copy only selected files!  Copy the whole InTouch Project Directory.

From the Temporary Working Directory, you may delete ALL files of the following specific file types:

  • ALG
  • IDX
  • LGH
  • WBK
  • WVW
Be careful to delete ONLY the file types noted here, and be sure to delete files ONLY from the Temporary Working Directory.
STEP 10 - You now have the Files we Need!!

Once STEP 9 is complete, the Temporary Working Directory contains the files needed for the Previse automated conversion process.  You are requested to forward ALL files in the Temporary Working Directory.

STEP 10 - Remove Files from InTouch Computer

If you are using WINZIP, then use WINZIP to ZIP ALL of the files from the Temporary Working Directory into a single ZIP file.  WINZIP compression ratio for most files is over 90%.  Except for very large systems, this file will most likely be less than 1 MByte in size, and will thus fit onto a floppy disk.  Copy the ZIP file onto onto a floppy disk and remove from the system.

If you are NOT using WINZIP, then you will have to find a way to remove all of the files in the Temporary Working Directory from the InTouch system.  Individual files may be bigger than floppy disk size, and total system size may be many 10's of MBytes.

STEP 11 - Send to Previse for Conversion

To initiate automated screen conversion by Previse, you must send the files gathered at STEPS 8, 9 and 10 to Previse.  Files are ONLY accepted via the following means:

  • Via Email with ONE attached ZIP file
  • Via CD-ROM sent via mail or courier with all files
  • Via ONE Floppy Disk sent via mail or courier with one ZIP file
